Sworn Polish translation
A sworn translation is a special type of translation prepared by a translator who holds official accreditation and is legally empowered to certify documents for court, government and other formal use. In Poland such translations are indispensable whenever an authority requires indisputable proof of a document’s contents.
What is it?
A sworn translation is signed and sealed by a “tłumacz przysięgły” – a translator who has passed a state examination and is entered on the official register kept by the Polish Ministry of Justice. The seal and signature give the translation the same legal force as a notarial act.
When do you need it?
Whenever you submit foreign-language documents to Polish courts, registries, immigration offices, universities, banks or tax authorities. Typical documents: birth/marriage certificates, diplomas, contracts, company statutes, court evidence, powers of attorney.
How it works
- Client delivers the original or a certified copy.
- The sworn translator produces the translation, then affixes an official stamp, hand-written signature, date and unique registration number.
- The finished document is bound to the original or its copy.
Quality & professionalism
Sworn translators are trained in precise legal terminology; mistakes can invalidate proceedings or delay residence permits. Only those listed in the official register may perform the service.
Confidentiality
Sworn translators are bound by professional secrecy; sensitive personal data is protected under Polish and EU law.
Requirements in Poland
To obtain the title, candidates must hold a master’s degree in languages or law, complete a specialised preparatory course and pass a state exam. Once appointed, the translator is subject to disciplinary rules and must renew the seal periodically.
Bottom line
A sworn translation removes any doubt about the authenticity and accuracy of a foreign document, streamlining dealings with Polish authorities and giving recipients full confidence in the paperwork you present.
